Thermotolerant (faecal) coliform testing in Ethiopia
Thermotolerant coliforms, also called faecal coliforms, point specifically at faecal contamination. They are separated from the wider coliform group by incubating at around 44 degrees Celsius instead of 37, which is why a field kit needs a controllable incubator rather than a warm box. Palintest membrane filtration kits and media cover both incubations on the same equipment.
Why it matters in Ethiopia
This is the test that answers the question people actually ask, which is whether sewage is reaching the water. Doing it in the field, on the day, is what lets a WASH team act on the result instead of filing it.
6 products in the Wagtech Trading catalog measure Thermotolerant (faecal) coliforms.
