Total dissolved solids testing in Ethiopia
Total dissolved solids, or TDS, is the total mineral content of water in mg/L. Most field meters derive it from conductivity with a conversion factor, so one instrument reports both. Palintest pocket and bench meters read TDS directly alongside conductivity and temperature.
Why it matters in Ethiopia
TDS is the number people notice, because high TDS water tastes salty and gets rejected however safe it is. For bottled water plants and reverse osmosis units it is also the daily check that the membranes are still doing their job.
