Fluoride testing in Ethiopia

Fluoride occurs naturally in groundwater and is measured in mg/L. It cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, so the only way to know the level in a borehole is to test it. Palintest measures fluoride photometrically by the SPADNS method, on a photometer with a dedicated fluoride range.

Why it matters in Ethiopia

The WHO guideline value for fluoride in drinking water is 1.5 mg/L. The Ethiopian Rift Valley is one of the best documented high fluoride groundwater belts in the world, so fluoride is a routine test for a new borehole between Ziway and Awassa, not an occasional one.
